The University of Nairobi rugby team Mean Machine became the first team to be relegated from Kenya Cup, the Kenya15s league following their loss yesterday with one match to spare.
Machine went down 25-10 against their hosts Impala Saracens at RFUEA Grounds, Nairobi.
Machine went into the match day needing a five-point win as well as win next weekend but the defeat means they pick nothing.
They remain 12th with 11 points as Blak Blad worsened things for the UoN side after picking a losing bonus in their 26-29 defeat to Top Fry Nakuru.
At 11 points, Machine cannot catch 10th placed Blak Blad(18 points) even if they were to beat Top Fry Nakuru with a bonus next weekend.
Machine won only two matches this season, beating both Blad and Strathmore at home but lost 14 with one matchday to go.
In 2017, Machine were relegated for the first time in 40 years but went on to win the Championship and secure promotion back to the Kenya Cup in 2018.
The other team to be relegated will be either Blad or Strathmore Leos with the latter suffering a 54-7 defeat to Kabras in Kakamega. Interestingly, the meet on the last matchday at Strathmore University.
A draw will be enough for Blak Blad to survive. Leos have 14 points, four behind Blak Blad and need a bonus win.
