Messages of condolences continue to flow in following the death former North Rift Athletics Kenya chairman Major Retired Michael Rotich.
The retired Kenya navy major died today midday according to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) Chief Executive Officer Dr. Wilson Aruasa.
Aruasa said they will be performing a postmortem to determine the course of his death.
“He died midday and we are waiting for postmortem to be done on his body to determine the cause of the death,” said Aruasa.
Speaking on behalf of the family Sammy Rutto was in shock following the sudden death of Rotich describing him as an industrious man.
“We took him to the hospital and he suddenly passed on on Monday afternoon,” said Rutto.
Athletics Kenya central rift secretary Kennedy Tanui passed the message of condolences to the bereaved family saying they have lost a big man in athletics family.
“He was the pillar of athletics in the region and his passing on is a big blow to us in athletics,” said Tanui.
Rotich was ejected from Kenya Team camp during the 2016 Rio Olympic Games in Brazil and on May 22nd IAAF’s ethics panel found him guilty as he was managing Kenyan team in Brazil after he agreed to give athletes advance notice for drug testing and was sent off from the camp.
