MMUST wins three #KUSA7s titles

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) recorded a back to back wins in today’s 4th leg of Kenya universities Sports Association (KUSA) rugby sevens that came to an end at Moi University ground.

The Father Kizito play ground was all that MMUST needed to seal their third title win after humiliating Kabrak University 17-0 in a final match played under chilly weather.

This was their third win after winning at their backyard a fortnight ago after beating Kenyatta University side Blak Blad who gave Moi meeting a wide berth to add on what they won at the opening series in Mombasa. Other winner was Blak Blad who won in Meru a month ago.

Back in today’s action, Nobert Lubwani converted Timothy Mnasi’s try in the opening minutes of the game for a 7-0 lead.

In a highly charged event, Blastas Juma of Kabarak was sent to the seat by centre referee and bulling MMUST used the opportunity to make their second try through Veron Kaburu with Tyson Juma missing a conversion to extend to a 12-0 lead.

In the dying minutes, Felix Wamocho went past the try-line with Derrick Okisai shooting past the posts to seal MMUST’s 17-0 win as the final leg heads to Nairobi next weekend.

The champions defeated daystar 14-05 at the semifinals with scores from Mmasi and Wamocho touching down as Lubwani and Okisai converting respectively as Duncan Olile made scored the only unconverted try to book for Kabarak date who had beaten hosts, Arsonists, the Moi University side.

Kabarak’s Chris Ojung made his try in the sudden death try to seal final victory following 12-12 draw against the hosts.

Chester Juma scored for finalists before Derrick Kinyari leveled with Kelvin Wanyonyi converting to give Moi the lead but Aden Nur’s restored the lead for a 12-07 before Kevin Masibo touched down for hosts as Wanyonyi failed the conversion.

In quarterfinals, Kabarak won the first match against Dedani Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) 12-07 before hosts winning by one converted try against Co-operative University. MMUST won the third quarter 5-0 against The University of Eldoret (UOE) and Zetech lost 0-12 to Daystar.
