Taking home ground advantage, Moi University was crowned the champions of Rift Valley Mashujaa Day handball tournament played over the weekend at Moi University Annex Campus.
It was all laughs as University of Eldoret claimed the women’s title played in a round robin at the same venue.
Moi University trounced Kabianga University 20-13 for the second time after they beat Kabianga 25-12 in a pool A encounter with the champions securing 100% wins in the two day tournament that kicked off on Saturday and concluding on Sunday evening, bringing together twelve teams: eight for men and four women.
At the semifinal level, Moi defeated Tang Tang Juniors 17-10 while Kabianga ousted Kittany Club 13-10 to book for a final match after they faced off at the pool B encounter.
the champions started well winning all pool A matches: they defeated Baringo TTC 19-12 followed by a 15-12 win against kabianga and 21-11 against Suzzy Peacock.
In the women category, UoE won all their matches to clinch the title. They started on a high, beating Baringo TTC 15-06 followed by 18-09 against hosts and 24-14 thrashing of kabianga University.
Kabianga, who finished second, started with a 11-07 loss against Moi but recovered to beat Baringo 13-11 and went ahead to lose the second match to the champions.
Moi was in third position following their one match win against Kabianga, lost 18-09 to UoE and 09-07 to Baringo, after falling to UoE, went ahead to defeat Kabianga 11-07 and lost 11-07 to Kabianga.
