Monks, Eldoret RFC shines

University of Eldoret RFC, Trojans failed to dominate on their home ground as Eldoret RFC and Catholic University of Eastern Africa-Monks-registered good results in the rugby 15s National wide League held in Eldoret on Saturday evening.

Trojans failed to capitalize on home fans against their visitors Monks in a University derby as Eldoret RFC beat Egerton University in an entertaining game at 2:00pm at the same venue.

Trojans failed to impress on their home field as they went down 15-03 against The Monks.

Dennis Mwanga’s penalty in the 7th minute was what the hosts could manage to score past their visitors. Monks’ Brehima   Hamisi crossed the white wash first on 9th minute to give the lead visitors as Forster Areni easily converted for 7-3 lead before the break.

On resumption, Areni went past the white wash but failed to convert his try for 12-3 lead and he converted a penalty for the 15-03 on the last whistle.

In the first match between Eldoret RFC and Egerton University, George Kimutai crossed the try line first with just five minutes in the game for Egerton before David Mwinano converted a penalty for an 8-0 lead and that marked the end of scoring chances for students.

Eldoret’s Evans Wanjala’s try reduced the lead of Egerton with his first try before Dennis Kiplimo converted to for 7-8 lead for Egerton as they headed into break.

On return, hosts camped in Egerton’s half as Nelson Galia try between the posts before Kiplimo easily converted for a 14-08 lead for the host.

On the dying minutes, Alex Maina crossed the white wash again for a 19-08 lead but this time, Kiplimo was not lucky as he missed the conversion.
