Muchangi, Owiti tie in Limuru opener

Paul Muchangi and Robinson Owiti have taken an early lead in the Limuru Open Golf championships, the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships on par 72 Limuru Golf Club.

As Eldoret club chairman Andrew Chelogoi ended the two rounds in third position ahead of Sunday’s third and final round with one over par 145 gross.

Playing on home turf, Muchangi tied with former Kenya captain Robinson Owiti from Vet Lab with all playing level par 144 gross in the two rounds of the 54 hole championships.

Muchange started on a low note, firing one over par 73 gross in the opening round before enjoying second round with one under 71 Gross.

In the first round, the former champion carded two birdies holes 2 and 8 on par threes before adding six pars and two double bogeys in the opening nine.

He returned in the last nine of first round with a single birdie, four pars and four bogeys to sign off with one over 73 gross.

In the second round, Muchangi started with eight pars and one birdie in the first nine and added another birdie with 7 pars and one bogey to end last nine with one under 71.

Owiti on the other hand played level in all rounds to tie with Muchangi. The Vet Lab golfer fired two birdies, four pars and two bogeys before returning with three birdies, three pars and three bogeys in the opening nine of the first round with level par 72.

With his ambitions to claim top position, he fired two birdies, six pars and one bogey in the first nine of second half and ended the day with eight pars and a bogey.
