Mugisha in opening command at Bondo Scrabble tournament

Ugandan player Philip Edwin Mugisha took the command at the opening day in the ongoing of Scrabble Kenya Bondo National Tournament at today in Bondo.

The Ugandan, who won the Kisumu tournament in November last year also anchored Word Cranes, the Ugandan national scrabble team to win bronze at the Africa Scrabble Championships held in November at the Destination Hotel in Kirinyaga County.

With top Kenyan players missing in the tournament like top seed Gitonga Nderitu, second seed Allan Oyende and Willy Mwangi), Mugisha managed to take a convincing early lead, losing just one game out of 10.

He is followed by Nicholas Mbugua from Nairobi County and Stanley Njoroge from Kiambu County.

In the Intermediate division, the legendary Samson Midigo from Nairobi County registered 10 wins out of the possible 10, with Julius Auka of Kwale County coming in in second place. George Nyakundi from Kisumu County currently holds third place.

Fierce competition is expected tomorrow as the competition enters it’s final day.

The winners will receive cash prizes as well as trophies and medals.
