Fresh from winning Diani Beach Masters, Elvis Muigua triumphed in today’s Malindi Open, the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series at the par 70 Malindi Golf Club.
In a hotly contested final at the Vasco da Gama dubbed event, both Muigua, then defending champion Michael Karanga and Ebill Omollo had tied on +9 219 forcing them to face off at the play-offs in holes 16, 17th, and 18th.
In the first playoff, the champion played recorded a bogey, a par and a anther par just as Karanga with Omollo sinking two bogeys and a par to be eliminated.
Both Karanga and Muigua went into the second play off which they tied before being subjected to another play where Muigua fired a bogey and a par while Karanga had two bogeys to lose a chance to defend his title for a hattrick.
The victory has placed Muigua in a good position despite remaining in position three behind leader John Lejirma, who missed the Vasco da Gama on 2050 points, then Karanga comes second with 1740 points and Muigua’s third with 1316 points.
The three day event brought together over 100 golfers, where the champion fired four over par 74, then level on the second round befrore rolling in five over 75 for a total of nine over par 219 while Omollo managed 73, 77, 69 and Karanga sinking 71, 70, 78 in the three rounds that teed off on Friday all through to Saturday and final round today Sunday.
