Kenyan marathon fell to Ethiopian runners in both men and women races during today’s Mumbai Marathon held in India.
Joshua Kipkorir who finished second last year came in a distance third behind Ethiopian pair of Solomon Dekisha and Shumet Akalnaw while women’s defending champion Bornes Kitur was second behind Amane Gobena.
Running his sixth marathon, Dekisha led a 1-2 finish for Ethiopian runners when he crossed the finish line 2:19.34 ahead of 29 year old Akalnaw who clocked 2:10.00 in a race ran under hot sun.
At 21 years, failed to lower the course record that stands at 2:08.35 as Kenyan Kipkorir crossed the finish line in 2:10.30.
Ethiopian Gobena won the women’s in 2:25:49 followed by Bornes Kitur who clocked 2:28:48 before Ethiopian Shumo Genemo completed the podium in 2:29:41.
Pradeep Singh won the men’s half marathon in 1:05:42 in slightly humid conditions. In the women’s half marathon, Sanjeevani Jadhav came in first in 1:26:24, followed by Monika Athare who clocked 1:27:15. In third place was Juma Khatun who clocked 1:27:48.
