Top clubs will be battling out for the 97th edition of Tannahill Shield Trophy this Easter Holiday at the Royal Nairobi Golf Club.
This year, the annual tournament has attracted nine teams with defending champions Muthaiga hoping to win back to back titles.
Royal club captain Stanley Kirui is optimistic that the tournament will be successful and most competitive, noting that many teams have registered for the annual Easter Holidays, one of the oldest tournaments in the country that will be marking 97 years since inception.
“We have many teams so far for the tournament and we expect a competitive tournament where teams will be battling for honours,” said Kirui.
The tournament will begin with the veteran golfers on Friday morning followed by the amateurs on Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday for the final round where the winning team will be announced.
The foursome tournament will have Central Kenya Region debuting for the championships in the inter-club shows which will see golfers return to Easter holiday after it was held in August last year due to the coronavirus.
“We had junior categories on Monday and Tuesday, which were very successful and we are hoping that come this weekend. The long journey of introducing juniors and veterans is to ensure the flow of talent,” added Kirui.
Defdning champions Muthaiga beat 2019 runners-up Western Kenya team nine points for the title.
