Organizers of the second edition of The Nairobi City Marathon have postponed the race.
Today, the committee announced that the planned race for May 21st has been postponed to July 2.
In a statement by Athletics Kenya, they said that they were unaware of a different run happening on the same day and decided to postpone the marathon.
“We were unaware of a different run happening on the same day across the road. In the true spirit of charity and sportsmanship, we are therefore happy to leave the day for them and push ours forward to allow them to meet their planned charity and community objectives,” the statement read.
“We deeply regret any inconvenience caused to the athletes, sponsors, partners and fans of the marathon,” the statement said.
“The organizers will use the remaining time to stage a better and bigger event since the team is committed to delivering a world-class gala that meets the highest standards of excellence.”
All registered participants have been urged to use this time to prepare better for the marathon and also visit the Nairobi Marathon website to see the running course and different categories for registration.
The course for the race remains the same, which is on the expressway, although the organizers are looking forward to making amends at the starting point.
Registration is open for both online and physical entries for 42km (Sh1500), 21km (Sh1200), 10km (Sh1000) and 5km (Sh500).
