Nepal whip Kenya to win Twenty20 title

Nepal defeated Kenya to be crowned the champions of the five match Twenty20 bilateral cricket series that came to an end today at the Nairobi Gymkhana Club.

With an alternating wins, Nepal managed to beat their hosts by 31 runs win with a total of 3-2 on the final day.

The visitors won the opening leg on Thursday then Kenya won the second match on Friday before heading to the break on Saturday 1-1.

On Sunday, Nepal beat the hosts for 2-1 but come Monday Kenya leveled 2-2 and today’s final match, Nepal won to take the crown at 3-2.

Ranked 14th in the men’s International Cricket Council (ICC) Nepal were impressive in their innings, setting a target of 175 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their innings.

Kenya, who are ranked 30th, were not successful in chasing the target, managing 144 runs for the loss of seven wickets.

In chasing Nepal’s 175 runs for the loss of seven wickets, Kenya in their innings settled on Collins Obuya and Sukhdeep Singh as the opening batsmen.

Sports CS Amina Mohamed, who attended the match alongside Cricket Kenya chairman Manoj Patel, congratulated the two teams for a good show in the series.

“Cricket is a heritage sport and we are delighted that this game is finally back here. We look forward to many more matches,” said the CS.

The tournament takes a two-day break before the start of the three One Day International matches on Friday at the same venue
