Defending champion Christine Njoki is confident of completing a hat-trick of titles at the third edition of the TechRun 10km Road Race scheduled for November 29, 2026, in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.
Njoki, who trains in Iten, won the inaugural edition in 2024 before successfully defending her title last year. She is now targeting a third consecutive victory in the annual race organised by Eldohub.
Speaking during the race’s media launch in Eldoret, Njoki said her previous successes had motivated her to return for another title.
“I am ready to defend my title. I have trained well and am looking forward to the race,” said Njoki.
She added that the prize money from the previous editions had played an important role in advancing her athletics career and helping her achieve some of her running ambitions.
Fresh from his Chicago Marathon victory, former London Marathon champion Amos Kipruto urged athletes to turn out in large numbers and take advantage of the competition to showcase their talents.
“I want to urge athletes to register and compete in such races to boost their chances of competing on the global stage. I also encourage corporates to organise more races in the country to accommodate many budding athletes,” said Kipruto.
He commended Eldohub for creating a platform where athletes can showcase their abilities and gain valuable competition experience.
“I give credit to Eldohub for providing this platform to compete. Tech Run has brought a new light and given athletes an opportunity to express their talent,” he added.
Eldohub Chief Executive Officer Magdalene Chepkemoi said the expanded programme was designed to give young people opportunities to showcase their innovations while exploring the connection between sports, business and technology.
Chepkemoi said the second day of the programme would feature the Beyond the Limit Line Innovation Challenge, bringing together participants from the business, sports and technology sectors.
The third day will feature Talent Enterprise and Feedback, where young technology trainees will exhibit innovations developed during their training.
She said Eldohub’s growth mirrored the journey of athletes who begin competing in village races before progressing to international recognition.
“Eldohub started small, just like an athlete who begins running in the village and later becomes a global elite athlete,” she said.
The TechRun was launched in 2024, drawing inspiration from the North Rift region’s rich athletics heritage and its reputation for producing world-class athletes.
Uasin Gishu Athletics Kenya branch chairman Joseph Boit called on stakeholders to strengthen efforts to combat doping, warning that the vice threatened Kenya’s reputation in international athletics.
“Doping has become a menace that will tarnish our name. We encourage everyone to support the fight against doping, which has become rampant,” said Boit.
Meanwhile, Uasin Gishu County Executive Committee Member for Sports Robert Kemei announced that the top 10 athletes in the men’s and women’s categories would receive prize money, with each winner set to pocket Sh250,000.
Kemei commended Eldohub for supporting athletics while promoting innovation through the competition.
