Newly appointed Uasin Gishu County Executive Committee (CEC) for Sports Lucy Ngendo Njoroge has urged women in sports to delicate their talents well and occupy their spaces in the hotly contested world of sports.

While addressing women in football during the women empowerment football tournament, Njoroge said that women have a chance to compete with the rest of the country in sports if they position themselves very well.

She said that she is ready to give support to women in sports across the county because they are privileged to have a chance to serve in the docket.

“Am here to give support to my fellow women in sports am privileged because this is a good start for me in my first assignment. It is good to move the county forward and having a woman as minister of sports is great. It is good for us to support each other,” said Njoroge.

She added that the county is bigger for every person to live in and sports is wide where each person can work at their own space.

“The space is always enough for everyone as much as we are crying out loud for gender equality inclusivity. I want to give you full support with the county government good will for all the sports here in the county.

With women crying out for women in sports sponsorship, she said that as a county, they will support various sporting disciplines.

Event organizer Charity Wangoma said that the federations to reduce the fees charged on registration and licensing to give a chance to many teams to register.

“We are here as women in sports to cry out on women sponsorship and we are fighting for gender equal future for the girls. What we are doing is a social economic transformation and empowerment of girls and young women. There so much discrimination, inequality in recourse allocation where male sports is given more priority compared to women side. It is all about discrimination and unequal distribution of resources,” she said.

She added that women team should have about 75% of team officials to be women so that the girls in the team can be secure.

“If we have an all men in management, they take a lot of advantage for the girls. Women wants to have a safe space to do their own things,” she said.
