Obiri shutters record, leads Lokedi and Chepkirui at New York City marathon podium sweep

It was an all Kenyan affair in the women marathon when Helleh Oriri led Sharon Lokedi and Sheila Chepkirui to sweep the New York City marathon race held today evening in the USA.

Obiri reclaimed the title she won in 2023 followed by Lokedi, the 2022 and thendefending champion Chepkirui in a 1-2-3 podium sweep for Kenyans.

Obiri set the course record at 2:19:51, shuttering then 23 year old record set by Margaret Okayo in 2002 at 2:22:31.

The two-time Olympics 5,00m silver medallist was followed by Lokedi who managed second position after clocking 2:20:07 with defending champion in third position after timing 2:20:24.
