Two time Olympic Games 5,000m silver medalist Hellen Obiri won the New York City half marathon held today in the USA.
The reigning world 10,000m silver medallist set a new record in the American race when she clocked 67. 21 for the title for her sixth career half marathon victory lowering the course record by 14 seconds set by Senbere Teferi 67:35, who lowered Molly Huddle time of 67:41 set in 2016.
She defeated defending champion Teferi 67:55 as Norwegian Karoline Bjerkeli Grøvdal came third in 69:53
In men, World cross country champion and world Half Marathon champion Jacob Kiplimo won the title ahead of Joshua Cheptegei.
Kiplimo won in 61:31 ahead of Cheptegei’s 62:09 as Kenyan Edward Cheserek was the only Kenyan to finish in top 10 after he romped home fifth in 1:02:58.
