Leading by example, Nicholas ‘Commander’ Okoth punched to the semifinals of the ongoing Konstantin Korotkov Memorial International Boxing Championships in Russia ahead of Olympic Games set for Tokyo, Japan.
The Hit squad, national boxing team captain punched Ukrainian Kishko Sergei today to progress into the semifinals of the championships in the heavyweight category in the 57km to land into the medla bracket.
On the official Boxing Federation of Kenya twitter @BoxingKenya, they wrote: “Nick “Commander” Okoth defeats Ukrainian Kishko Sergei on points in their 51kgs Quarterfinals Contest to proceed to Semi Finals tomorrow.”
In a unanimous decision, Okoth won in all the five rounds in 29-28, 30-27 and 30-27 in the quarterfinals against Kishko which was a reprieve for Kenyan team after the exit of Christine Ongare and Elizabeth Akinyi exited the championship in the hands of Estonia’s Diana Gorishnaya and Maria Moronto of the Dominican Republic respectively yesterday.
Following the win, Okoth will battle with Russia’s Ovik Oganisyan in the semis in 57km as his compatriot Elly Ajowi competing in heavyweight tackle Uzbekistan opponent MAMADIYAR SAYDRAHIMOV in the 91km category.
