Omanyala beat Simbine with season best

In one of the highly competitive 100m challenge on the African continent, the continental 100m record holder Ferdinand Omurwa Omanyala edged out former record holder and Commonwealth Games champion Akan Simbine in today’s Athletics South Africa (ASA) Athletics Grand Prix.

The 4th leg of the championships at the Germiston Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa was good for Omanyala who beat Simbine on home ground when he ran his season best of 9.98 to win the title as Simbine was second timing 10.11 ahead of compatriot Bradley Nkoana was third in 10.38 seconds.

The duo also faced off at the Brussels Diamond League with Omanyala, who finihshed 4th beat Simbine to 6th and Omanyala went ahead to break Simbine’s record after finishing second in 9.77 seconds at the Kip Keino Classic last year lowering Simbine’s previous Africa record stood at 9.84 seconds.
