Omanyala, Chepngetich light-up A.K championships at Kasarani

Africa 100m record holder Ferdinand Omanyala and world marathon champion Ruth Chepngetich lit the opening day of Athletics Kenya national track and field championships cum Africa Senior Athletics championships trials at Kasarani stadium.

Coming from National Police Service, Omanyala clocked 9.9 seconds to win his heat

“This is part of my preparations towards Kipkeino Classic and I think the race will be won in 9.6 or 9.7 seconds, it will be a fast race,” said Omanyala.

Mumbai marathon champion Chepngetich won the 10,000m title ahead of compatriot Alice Aprot for the title in a 1-2 finish for Kenya Prisons Service.

She won the women’s 10,000m in 31:47.9 followed by Aprot (32:01.0) with Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Judy Komen coming third in 32:32.6, Brillian Chepkorir (32:46.3) in that respective order.

In hammer, Lucy Omondi won the title after throwing 52.55m.
