Omanyala qualify into 100m semis at Tokyo Olympic Games

National 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala Omurwa qualified into the second round of ongoing Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

The only Kenyan in the 100m qualified to compete in the semi-finals with a national record of 10.01 to finish third in Heat 5.

With two fault starts, the axe fell on Nigeria’s Divine Oduduru and Canadian Andre de Grasse winning in 9.91 seconds with American Fred Kerley in second position in 9.97 seconds.

The top three athletes from each of the seven heats qualify for the semi-finals as well as three athletes with the fastest times.

Omanyala, who was to compete with friend Mark Otieno, did not take part in the qualifying rounds after failing a doping test.
