Kenya scrabble championships returns this weekend in Kitale’s Skynest County Hotel as Onani Magwanga will be seeking a back to back wins in the tournament.

The national grand prix an event used by Scrabble Kenya to select Kenyan team for next year’s World English-language Scrabble Players Association Championships (WESPAC) next year in Goa, India kicks off on 6th to 7th of October.

Host Ayub Zande said all preparations are complete for the championship and invited players to tour the Kitale museum and Saiwa national park on the sidelines of the tournament
“We are all set for the champions and we inviting top players to attend. The two day event will be full of action with top players taking part in the championships,” said Zande.
Coming from Homabay, Magwanga said he was ready to defend continue with his superlative performnce.
Magwanga ousted Tobias Outi after a gruelling 18 rounds to clinch the title on the final round with 356-436.
“My aim is to extend the winning ways and to get to the top in the qualification log,” said Magwanga.
According to Scrabble Kenya Secretary General Muumbi Muema, top players who competed at the concluded County Assembly Sports Association (CASA) and Inter-Bank games are expected to shine.
“Players who competed in the CASA championship (led by champion Livingston Talel of Elgeyo Marakwet) and inter Bank games are expected to debut in the Open championships,” said Muema.
