Otanga, Shambi are the latest call-up ahead of CHAN qualifier

Harambee Stars, the national soccer team will hit the ground running ahead of their match against Tanzania in the Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) qualifier.

The team will head to the camp on Friday under head coach Sebastien Migne who has named newly signed Wazito FC forward Derrick Otanga, Ulinzi Stars’ midfielder Ibrahim Shambi, who was part of the Kenya U-23 team that lost to Sudan in the 2020 Olympic Qualifiers early this year, has also been called up.

Kenya will be hoping to make their maiden appearance at the continent’s second-tier national football competition, which is exclusively reserved for players actively featuring in their respective domestic leagues.

Should Harambee Stars go past Tanzania in the first round, they will come up against Sudan in the second and final qualifying round.

Harambee Stars encounter against Tanzania will be a rematch between the two East Africa Nations where Kenya beat Tanzania 3-2 in Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations Pool C encounter.

The first of the two-legged qualifier has been scheduled for July 28, 2019, with the second set to be played at the MISC Kasarani on August 4, 2019.
