Top players will be facing off in the 4th and penultimate stage of Scrabble Kenya Grand Prix, the World English Scrabble Players Association Championships (WESPAC) and East, Central and Southern Africa Scrabble Championships (ECASA) qualifier this weekend.
Series leader Allan Oyende and second seed Nderitu Gitonga will be the men to watch at the two day event that will be held in Kitui.
The journey started in December in Nyahururu, followed by Nairobi and Standard Chartered, the event moves to Kitui before the final round in Bondo next month.
With the event set to start on Saturday 4th to Sunday 5th, Gitonga, who won the opening leg in Nyahururu, finished 15th in Nairobi and last month’s Standard meeting finishing 3rd said that he has hopes and is optimistic that this time he is more than ready to accumulate as few points as possible.
“I have had good training for the last one on month in preparation for the event. I want to try my best to be among the top players that will be selected to represent the country at both WESPAC and ECASA,” said Gitonga.
“With Grand Prix, the less points you earn the better because a win is equal to one point and in each position you finish, you earn points. As a scrabble player, I have to earn less points to top the charts,” said Nderitu.
