Oyende triumph at ASC Invitational Masters tournament

Allan Oyende defeated Nderitu gitonga to win the Africa Scrabble (ASC) Invitational Masters tournament that came to a close at the Nairobi Stima Club on Monday evening.

Oyende, who has been failing to shine in many tournaments across the country, won the title as the last training ahead of next week’s ASC Championships that will be staged in Lusaka, Zambia as the continental championships returns after two years of coronavirus.

The Nairobi Stima Club player, who finished 4th at the continental championships in 2019 in Kirinyaga said that he wants to up his game at the Lusaka championships that starts on 21st to 24th.

“We lost at home to Nigeria but this time, I have done enough practice to enable me win the title in Lusaka.  I was the top Kenyan in 4th position with Stanley Njoroge coming in 7th with Nigerians taking top three positions. Heading to Lusaka, it is my time,” said Oyende.

The World English Scrabble Players Association (WESPAC) rated tournament, Oyende won 22 matches, losing 10 in the 32 game tournament.

“Being Kenya one may be simple but maintaining that position is not easy. I lost in some of the games that were very tough and managed to come out clean to victory,” he said.
