Kenyan athletics lovers and officials have called on president William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua to save the country from facing the axe from international championships.
With the president out of the country and the dates of fate approaching fast, Athletics Kenya officials are up and down to ensure that the country does not go the Russia way.
One of the officials said that the only way to save the country is the head of state to announce and assure the world that Kenya is working towards ending the violations and athletes to run clean.
“We want our president to save us from this mess. A few individuals are ruining the good sport. With the president out of the country, we would like his deputy to announce to the world what we shall be doing to secure this Kenya’s number one sport,” said the official.
Many athletics followers and lovers are waiting for Friday with prayers that the sport shall not fall.
“If this sport will be banned or struck off from the competitions, what will I be doing? I have been living throughout my life in athletics. It will be very bad not just for me but the country, athletes and all stakeholders who value this country,” he said.
With Kenya placed under category A for violating anti-doping rules in competitions, the World Athletics and Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) will be making an announcement whether Kenya will be struck off from competing in international events next season.
The world raised the red flag way back in 2016 for the alarming doping cases in the country but that has not changed at all with this being the worst with over 25 athletes banned and suspended for various violation of anti-doping rules.
He said that there are many top elite athletes that AIU is on their radar and soon they will be unmasked and this will be the end of running in the country.
“Many athletes and the country at large will be affected and it will be an expensive affair that will cost jobs and many lives will be affected directly and indirectly,” he said.
