President William Ruto witnessed the crowning of three time Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon and double Olympic champion Beatrice Chebet of the Golden Plate by the Academy of Achievers of the United States of America.
The award was good for the two Kenyans who have concluded their year on a high note, however, Kipyegon will complete her year when she will be competing at the Athlos Meeting in New York.
Awarding the duo was to celebrate their outstanding performances in the recent track seasons.
Kipyegon claimed gold and silver in the 1,500m and 5,000m at the concluded Paris Olympic Games in France after setting a new world 1,500m record at the Paris Diamond League.
Chebet on the other hand set the record by winning gold medals in both 5,000m and 10,00m in Paris after setting 10,000m world record at the Eugene Diamond League.
The Golden Plate Award, established in 1961, is given to high achievers across various fields, ranging from sports to science to the arts
The Academy was founded by acclaimed photographer Brian Blaine Reynolds, best known for his work in Life magazine and Sports Illustrated.
