Purity Gitonga to defend her Meru Mountain Running title

Purity Gitonga has set the agenda to defend her Meru Mountain running title set for February 26th 2022 in Meru County.

Gitonga who won the women title said herfocus will be to retain her title with counter governor Kiraitu Murungi promising an improved race.

“We want to promote sports tourism in the region as well as encourage running for a better and healthier lifestyle,” said Murungi.

Murungi also announced that the bregustration fee has been reviewed to kshs 1,000 from Ksh2,500 to Sh1,000 to draw more participants close to 5,000.

Murungi disclosed that Sh25 million in cash and kind was realised from the first edition’s event that attracted 3,000 participants in 2020. The event wasn’t staged last year owing to Covid-19.

“We want to promote sports tourism in the region as well as encourage running for a better and healthier lifestyle,” said Murungi.
