Regina Malai Mulatya retains silver at World Masters Athletics Indoor Championships in USA

Two Africa record holder Regina Malai Mulatya successfully retained her silver medal at the World Masters Athletics Indoor Championships at the Gainesville in Florida, USA.

Making her second appearance at the indoor championships after the 2023 championships in Poland when she secured two silver medals in both triple and long jumps, Mulatya retained her silver medal in the long jump today before Friday’s triple jump.

Competing in the 45 years, Mulatya cleared the sand at 5.24m behind Australian Melissa Foster who won gold in 5.45m with Nigerian Olutoyin Augustus settling for bronze at 5.19m.

Her silver was the 4th medal for the country after Peter Kamau mwangi and Francis Kikoech Bowen winning gold in shot and 3,000m, then a silver from Ibrahim makonjo Muyah.

Mulatya said that she really struggled to jump since it is an indoor event.

“It was tough but I thank God that I have defended my silver hoping to improve on gold in the triple jump,” said Mulatya.

She said that the field is so completed

“This is my second time to compete at the indoor. Last in Poland where I won two silver in long jump and triple jump,” said Mulatya who holds two after records in both triple and long jumps set in South Africa in 2023.
