Two time Instanbul marathon champion Ruth Chepng’etich won the first gold medal for Kenya at the IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar.
The Dubai marathon champion, making her debut in kenya team won the marathon title in 2:32.43, leading the defending champion Rose Chelimo by 63 seconds.
The half marathon specialist from Kenya relegated Chelimo, the Kenyan born turned Bahraini to silver in 2:33.46 before Namibia’s Helalia Johannes completing the podium in 2:34.15.
Two time world marathon champion Kiplagat, who won silver in 2017 finished 4th in 2:35.36.
