Sam Nyamweya under siege

Immediate Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Sam Nyamweya is under siege after the Aberdares branch Chairman Davis Chege accused him for misappropriate KSh2.5m meant for sports development in the region.

According to Chege, the money – a donation from Kiambu County Government – was deposited to FKF’s bank accounts in September last year before they were inexplicably withdrawn despite prior requests by Chege demanding that the accounts be frozen.

“We wrote to the bank demanding that no transaction should take place without our consent.  We only later learnt that the money had been withdrawn so our next step was to report the matter to the police.

“We have around 100 clubs which require funds to run and we want our money back,” Chege demanded.

In response, Nyamweya admitted having withdrawn the funds albeit not on his own volition as ‘unpaid federation employees’ requested his intervention in helping access the funds.

“Those allegations are unfounded, I was only requested by the federation employees who had not been paid for long to assist them get the money, because I was a signatory until the end of the year.

“None of the money came to me directly as it was all for the employees. It is my view employees should be paid because they also worked even under me,” Nyamweya said.

Nyamweya accused the current FKF office for failing to engage him in the transfer of bank signatories and opting to open new bank accounts when Nick Mwendwa came into power in February last year.
