Uganda’s Samuel Were recorded his maiden win at the Bungoma Chess Open Championships, the last event of the Chess Kenya series ahead of National Chess Championships set for next month at the Makini School.
In a tournament that attracted players from Uganda, South Sudan and hosts Kenya, Were led his country mate Patrick Kawuma to second before former national champion Mehul Gohil tied in third with South Sudanese pair of Mayen Deng Ador and Samuel Ngong Gai, with Kenyans pair of Calvin Ntumwa and Hubert Kimani.
Were recorded 100% victories with 6/6 points as Nawuma managed 5/5 while Gohil, Ador, Gai, Ntuma and Kimani managed 5/6 points apiece.
