SDT offers reprieve for Madoya and Kipyegon for match-fixing ban

Mike Madoya and Isaac Kipyegon have been exempted from a match-fixing that was put upon them by Football Kenya Federation.

Last week, the federation announced that the duo led by former Most Valuable Player Madoya and Tusker’s Kipyegon were involved in match fixing but they went to court, the Sports Disputes Tribunal that offered temporary restraining order.

“Upon reading the Certificate of Urgency of Desmond David Otwal, together with the Notice of Motion dated January 16, 2023, and presented to this Tribunal on January 17, 2023, by Counsel for the Applicants, and upon reading the supporting Affidavit of Isaac Kipyegon sworn on January 17 together with annexures thereto. It is hereby ordered that an interim order of injunction be and is hereby issued staying the decision by the Football Kenya Federation communicated vide a press release letter dated January 13, 2023, to suspend the first and second applicants pending the full hearing and determination of this Application,” part of Judge John Ohaga’s order read.

Both Madoya and Kipyegon previously played for former top-flight minnows Zoo Kericho who got caught up in the middle of the chaos. Six of the 15 suspects are ex-Zoo players.

FKF’s Barry Otieno said they had initiated inquiries into the suspects’ actions with immediate effect.

“To protect the integrity of the league, in line with the federation’s zero-tolerance policy match-fixing, the FKF has with immediate effect provisionally suspended the  individuals pending the investigations of the matter by the Fifa & FKF’s integrity department.

“The list includes Willis Ochieng Oganyo (Coach-Zetech University), Hamidu Kwizera Lucas (former player Zoo FC), Vincent Misikhu (former player Zoo FC), Sammy Sindani Sabiri (Silibwet Leons FC), Michael Madoya (former player Nairobi City Stars) and Johnstone Ligare (former player Zoo FC).

Others are Geoffrey Gichana (Zoo FC), Dominic Ouma Okoth (Kericho Rovers FC), Isaac Kipyegon (Tusker FC)Stanislausus Akiya Munyasa (Silibwet Leons FC), William Odunga (Silibwet Leons), Daniel Kiptoo (former player Zoo FC) and Brian Lumumba (Zoo FC).Monde Selenga Mangili (head coach of Kericho FC), and Dennis Monda (former Player of Vihiga United) are also under scrutiny.
