Senegal’s women’s volleyball team, the Lionesses, have arrived in Nairobi ahead of the 2026 CAVB Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship, which runs from August 23 to September 5 at the Kasarani Indoor Arena and Ulinzi Sports Complex.

Senegal became the second participating nation to arrive in Kenya for the continental showpiece, following the Democratic Republic of Congo, who arrived earlier this month under the tutelage of Kenyan coach Paul Gitau

The West Africans are expected to hold their first training session in Nairobi this evening at the Kasarani Indoor Arena as they step up preparations for the tournament.

Senegal missed the previous edition of the championship in Yaoundé, Cameroon, where Kenya emerged champions. Their last appearance was in Kigali, Rwanda, in 2021, when they finished seventh in the nine-team competition.

The 2026 championship brings together 16 of Africa’s top women’s volleyball nations. Senegal have been drawn in Group C alongside Mali, Burkina Faso and Tunisia.

Nigeria has been drawn in a challenging pool alongside Morocco and Algeria for the 2026 Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship

The tournament carries added significance as the African champion will secure the continent’s quota place for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. The top three eligible teams will also qualify for the 2027 FIVB Women’s World Championship.

Senegal will therefore be aiming to make a strong return to the continental stage as the Lionesses seek a place among Africa’s volleyball elite.
