Serem and Kosgei ready for Lima battle

The reigning Africa 3,000m steeplechase silver medalist Edmund Serem and compatriot, the reigning Africa 3,000m steeplechase bronze medalist Mathew Kosgei will be seeking a slot in team Kenya at the World Under 20 Athletics Championships will be seeking gold medals when the World Under 20 championships kicks off next week in Lima, Peru.

Serem who beat Kosgei in Duala, Cameroon, will be facing off against after securing the two slots in the water and barrier events that starts from August 27-31st at the National stadium.

Serem, the young brother to former world under 20 3,000m steeplechase champion Amos Serem will be banking on his experience earned for the title chase.

The 18-year-old Serem is ready for this his third assignment for Kenya having received tips and trained with his role model 2X Olympic and 4x world champion Ezekiel Kemboi whom he used watch compete as a young boy with his father. 

Though he did not make the cut for Team Kenya for the Paris Olympics Games he hopes that he will be able to compete with his brother during next year’s World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

Kosgei will be hoping to continue his father’s legacy William Chemitei, who won the title back in Sudbury, Canada in 1988 and represented Kenya during the 1987 and 1989 World Cross Country Championships (won gold for team). 

Seeing his father’s medals proudly displayed at home motivated and pushed him into the 3,000m steeplechase event.
