Sheila Chepkirui returns to defend New York City Marathon title

New York City marathon will be a do or die to mark the end of the World Major Marathon 2025 calendar set for tomorrow, Sunday November 2nd in the USA where all champions will be challenging each other.

In women, the reigning Olympic marathon champion Sifan Hassan will lead top notch marathoners, seeking to end the 22 year old course record set by Kenyan Margaret Okayo way back in 2003.

Hassan will be up against reigning champion Sheila Chepkirui, who returns to defend her title against 2023 champion Hellen Obiri, 2022 champion Sharon Lokedi among others.

Others in the lineup include the 2018 London marathon champion Vivian Cheruiyot, Ednah Kiplagat at 45 years, the Great Britain’s Eilish McColgan, Ireland’s Fionnuala McCormack.

Double Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge will lead the men’s onslaught against Ethiopian Kenenisa Bekele, Olympic bronze medallist Benson Kipruto, London marathon winner Alexander Mutiso, defending champion Abdi Nageeye, 2021 champion Albert Korir,Kenyans Abel Kipchumba, France’s Felix Bour, Norway’s Sondre Nordstad Moen, and the USA’s Abbabiya Simbassa among others.
