Handicap 28 golfer Ayub Shitseswa edged out Chrisandus Anyonyi on countback to win the Kenya Seed golf title played today in a nine-hole Kakamega golf club.
Playing on home club, Shitseswa carded 40 points to stun his close rival Anyonyi to walk home a goat.
The second nine score of 21 played a critical role for the winner who carded 21 points while managed 18 to drop. In the front nine Shitseswa played a low 19 points as Anyonyi wes on top of the leader with 22 points.
The green keeper dropped two in opening two holes par 5 and 4, bogeyed in third par three, double bogeyed in 4 par 5 dropped one in 5, 6 and 7 pars 3, 5 and 4 dropped two in 8 par 3 and concluded with a bogey in 9 par 4 for a total of 19 points.
Despite complaining of running greens, he dropped two on 10th par 5, dropped one in 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th sunk deep with double bogey in 17th par 3 and recovered with a bogey in the 28 for 21 points to earn him the title.
“It was a tough tournament with very fast running greens as there was a big challenge in putting hence missing out on pars and birdies,” said Shitseswa adding that as much as he is the green keeper, it was one of the most challenging encounter.
Stephen Amusala was in the third position on 38 while Janet wasike came in 4th on 36.
In other prizes, handicap 31 Wasike was on podium to receive Lady winners prize.
Shabanji Opukah and Justus Oyiendo were first and second nine winners with 22 and 19 points apiece.
Brisker Amusala on 21 points was the junior winner as Edwin Ruto won the staff prize as guest prize was picked by Ashaba Morris with 28 points.
Longest drive men title went to Nandi Bears player Ely Barno and Faith Chemtai picked ladies title and Fred Oloibe was nearest to the pin winner.
