Without conceding at try, Shujaa, the national rugby sevens team won all their two matches on the opening day of Africa Rugby sevens in Tunisia today to make it to the quarterfinals with ease.
Daniel Taabu and Michael Wanjala scored a brace as Leonard Mugaisi, Alvin Otieno and Derrick Keyoga all touched down for all seven converted tries by Taabu to defeat Botswana 49-0 in the pool A mach.
Taabu started with double converted tries followed by Wanjala’s double and one for Mugaisi for Kenya to take a 35-0 lead into break.
On resumption Otieno and Keyoga dotted down a try each in the Second half for Shujaa to take the win.
It was the similar script in the second match against Morocco. The East Africa country thrashed Morocco 41-0 with tries from Keyoga who landed a hat trick while Taabu, Charles Owino and Cyprian Kuto dotted down a try each with Taabu’s conversions.
With Innocent ‘Namcos’ Simiyu on his last assignment as national sevens head coach, it was a good outing as Shujaa topped Pool A qualifying for the Cup quarterfinals.
