For the third time, Shujaa, the national rugby 7s team edged out Shogun Rugby to defend the annual Safari 7s title that came to an end today at the Nyayo national stadium in Nairobi, Kenya.
The Kevin Wambu coached side won 14-07 to win their 4th title in a row since losing the title in 2021 to Germany.
Despite the tournament kicking off on a bad note on Friday fillowng the death of Warren Abrahams, the Belgium National Sevens Team coach, Shogun scored first with a converted try for 7-0 but Shujaa recovered to scored, to level the matter through Nygel Amaitsa with a converted try for 7-7 into break.
On resumption, Floyd Wabwire’s converted try handed Shujaa a life line with a 14-07 lead for victory.
In the play off for the bronze, Kenya Morans defeated Zimbabwe Cheetahs 19-12 to claim third place.
National 7s Circuit champions KCB Rugby finished fifth after edging UK Select 19-17 in a closely fought playoff.
