Shujaa win two out of three fixture as Solidarity sevens kicks off in South Africa

Shujaa, the national men rugby sevens team registered mixed results in the opening day of the Rugby South Africa Solidarity sevens Camp at the Stellenbosch in South Africa.

In their third and final Saturday match, the Innocent Simiyu led charges defeated South Africa 2 19-12 after losing to South Africa 1 28-18 and winning against Zimbabwe 24-0 in the opening fixture.

Kenya enjoyed ball possession Nelson Oyoo converted his own try for a 7-0 lead before Justin Geduld converted his try for a 7-all draw then the hosts scored incoverted try to lead 12-07.

Daniel Taabu converted Derrick Keyoga try for a 14-12 lead for Shujaa before Taabu failed to convert Harold Anduvate try for a 19-12 win.

In the second match, Shujaa lost 27-14 to The Blitzboks (South Africa 1) in a tight match.

Anduvate and Oyoo scored Shujaa’s only tries in the game that were converted by Taabu.

In the opening fixture, Kenya thrashed Zimbabwe 24-0

Kenya started on a high note with Billy Odhiambo and Jacob Ojee exchanging hands and quick feet trying to penetrate the Zimbabwean defense which proved tricky for the opening three minutes of the match.

Ojee beat his two markers deep in Kenya’s territory, racing past the Zimbabwean defense to score a try that Tony Omondi converted for a 7-0 lead then Keyoga added the second try for a 14-0 lead at the break.

O resumption, Alvin Otieno extended the lead to a 19-0 after a missed conversion before Tony Omondi sealed the victory with another corner post try off a scrum
