World marathon record holder Ruth Chepngetich and Shadrack Kipkemei finished second at the Lisbon half marathon held today in Lisbon, Portugal.
In what was to be an epic battle, Chpeng’etich, who set the world record during last year’s Chicago marathon finished second behind Ethiopian Tsigie Gebreselama who set te championships record as well as personal best.
Gebreelama cut the tape at 64:21 with Chepngetich coming second at 66:20 with Swedish Abeba Aregawi completing the podium with national record in a the 21km debut at 66:36.
In men, Djibouti international Abdi Waiss won the title in 59:44 as his personal best with Kenyan Kipkemei coming second after clocking 59:49 as personal best and Djibouti’s Mohamed Ismail completing the podium in 59:54.
