Simbas stun Uganda to defend Elgon Cup title

Kenya Rugby15s side The Simbas  thrashed their opponents Uganda 05-16 to retain their Elgon Cup title in a match played at Kyadondo ground, Uganda.

Kenya recovered well from a 13-16 slim home loss three weeks ago at Kisumu’s Mamboleo Showground and set up a good revenge against their hosts.

Simbas won the title with a 29-21 aggregate to retain the title they won last year.

The seven year long wait for Uganda to lift the title has been extended to eight if they will win next year.

Last time Uganda won the title was in 2012. Today, returning into the Simbas team, Jacob Ojee scored 11 point for Kenya while Uganda took a 5-0 lead through Ronald Kanyanya’s try but Billy Omondi cancelled the score before Kenya 7s Ojee sent Kenya 5-8 up from the tee.

Kenya led 5-8 into water break as Ojee returned to hound as he slotted in another three-pointer after the break.

Scrumhalf Mickey Wanjala set up Ojee to sprint up to 70m to score Kenya’s second and final try and secure the win.
