Kenya’s Lydia Naliaka Simiyu will be chasing her second title when she lines up at the Cape Town marathon next weekend.
Simiyu, the silver medalist winner at the Donostia San Sebastian half marathon in Spain, won the title in 2021, will be hoping to reclaim her title after missing in 2022.
Having her personal best of 2:25.44, she will be facing off with compatrion Risper Chebet who has 2:23.45 as well as the Ethiopian pair of Tsige Haileslase (2:22.10) as the top runner and Melesech Tsegaye with 2:24.47.
In men, it will be an Ethiopian battle of top positions containing Yemane Tsegay (2:04.48), Hailu Zawdu (2:06.31) and Adane Kebede who has 2:06.54.
South Africa Stephen Mokoka with 2:06.42 will be up at the starting line up to chase the top honours on home soil.
