Former Kenya Premier League champions Sofapaka have appointed veteran coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno as their head coach.
In a statement the Batoto Ba Mungu said: “We are pleased to inform our fans, in a bid to boost the squad and the Technical Bench, we have appointed Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno to be the Head Coach of our team and will be assisted by Coach Ezekiel Akwana.”
Sofapaka, which is facing relegation from the top tier league appointed immediate KCB FC head coach Otieno and will be unveiled on Sunday when they take on Bidco United.
Otieno will be taking over from Ezekiel Akwana who will return to his previous role as assistant coach.
Initially, Akwana had served assistant coach to fired Francis Haringingo before he was elevtade to head coach.
Zico becomes the third coach for 2009 champions this season after the firing of Haringingo and elevation of Akwana.
Zico has coached Sony Sugar, Posta Rangers, and Harambee Stars head coach.
Otieno joins Sofapaka at a time when the club is struggling both on and off the pitch. On the field, they are second from the bottom with just 14 points.
