Sofapaka wins as Sharks, Leopards draw

2009 Kenya Premier League(KPL) champions Sofapaka registered their first win against Mount Kenya United formerly Nakumatt in the KPL season opener at Machakos stadium today.

As Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Shield Cup champions Kariobangi Sharks played out to a one all draw against former GoTV Shield champions AFC Leopards.

After surviving relegation, Mount Kenya United lost 2-1 to Sofapaka with goals from John Avire for Sofapaka in the 42nd minute before Stephen Waruru doubled the scores from the spot on 53rd minute after substitute Kepha Aswani was brought down in the box by Amani Kyata but went ahead to net a consolation.

Sharks had to finish the match with 10 men after Michael Bodo was shown a straight red card for an off the ball incident in a brawl that dragged almost three minutes.
