Sports family mourns as Kioni is laid to rest

Sports family mourned the fallen hero in sports Waithaka Kioni as a great man who anchored sports from across the country.

Kioni, who was the Kenya Volleyball Federation president was laid to rest yesterday in his Kiamwangi home in Gatundu South, Kiambu County, was eulogized as a man

Kioni, who was also serving as the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) vice president was eulogized by fellow officials, Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) representatives, active and former volleyball players, officials from various federations, politicians as a great man.

He will be remembered for forming the Kenya Pipeline Company volleyball team.

CAVB President Bouchra Hajij, who was represented by Zone V President Fernand Ruterana, challenged the current KVF leadership to guard and continue with the legacy that Kioni had started.

NOC-K Secretary General Francis Mutuku told mourners that Kioni was their to-go guy.

Charles Nyaberi, the acting KVF President, was optimistic that the management will pick from where Kioni had left.

KVF Deputy President David Kilundo, Secretary General Ben Juma, treasurer Kenneth Tonui, deputy treasurer Moses Mbuthia, FIVB instructor and deputy secretary Catherine Mabwi, Organising Secretary Ismail Chege, Deputy Organising Secretary John Ajole, Coast branch chairperson Miduda Waweru, executive members Alfred Chedotum and Emily  Mbotela were present.
