St. Anthony in straight fourth final as Gatero shock champions Wiyeta

St. Anthony’s Boys kitale has one step in defending their Rift Valley Schools Games soccer under 20 title when they face debutants Chesewew Boys at the finals set for tomorrow at Baringo Boys High school.
But a new champion will be made in girls under 20 after champions Wiyeta were bundled out of the championships by gatero. There will be a new champion too in boys under 16 following St. Anthony’s Kitale lost at the counties.
St. Anthony under the tutelage of Peter Mayoyo edged out former national champions Laier Hill Academy in a tense semifinal match with a solitary goal scored by Jacob Onyango in the 65th minute.
Onyango was also on target in their quarterfinal when they beat Uasin Gishu’s Wareng High school.
Following their win, the Trans Nzoia based school will face off with Chesewew from Elgeyo Marakwet who defeated last year regional finalists Chemase from Nandi 4-5 in post match penalties following a barren draw in normal and extra time play played at Ravine stadium.
Kitale head coach Peter Mayoyo said they had a tough match but they are used in playing such games hence it wasn’t a challenge for him.
“We are used playing such big games therefore it was not the first time to play. At the same, we have played against Laiser Hill for years and we have gained experience against them,” said Mayoyo who is targeting East Africa Schools Games after nationals set for next month in Kisumu.
After losing Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom Rift valley region championships, Itigo girls from Nandi will battle for their title against Gatero from Laikipia in the under 20.
Itigo were 6-0 winners against Yemit. Itigo scored through Martha Amunyoleti who scored 4 as Captain Daisy Cherop netted a brace for Itigo while Gatero eliminated champions Wiyeta with a solitary goal.
Itigo captain Cherop said they are targeting national championships.
“We are happy that we made it to the finals. Our target is to play at the East Africa,” said Cherop.
In the under 16 girls, Wiyeta, who beat Uasin Gishu’s Ngeria 5-1 will battle Falling Waters who beat Cheptarit 4-0 while Moi Sirgoi will play Goseta. Sirgoi beat Menegaoi as Goseta boys who edged out hosts 0-3.
It will be the same script as inn girls finals when former national volleyball champions Cheptil play Kesegon while Lelmokwo battle Kaptebee.
Cheptil and Kesegon were 3-0 winners against Kaboson (Bomet) and Chebororwa (Elgeyo Marakwet) in 25-12, 25-14 and 25-09 and 25-15, 25-08 and 25-19 respectively. As Lelmokwo defeated Ziwani .
