Stephen Waruru headlines ten players axed by KCB

Kenya Premier League (KPL) side KCB has axed ten players from team that has been attributed to the financial crisis cost by the coronavirus pandemic.

Among those hit hard is former Harambee Stars striker Stephen Waruru,  Pascal Ogweno, keeper Allan Owiny, Eston Esiye, Bolton Omwenga, Eric Otieno, Brian Olango, Gabriel Mugabo, Kenneth Mukuria, and Benson Amianda.

Team manager Azu Ogola wrote: “Covid-19 has negatively impacted the Kenyan economy global community at large. The negative impact has by extension affected the financial capabilities and support of KCB FC sponsors.”

“This has in turn reduced the funds available to support and run the activities of KCB FC. In order to sustain the team and activities of KCB FC going forward, it has become necessary to reduce the number of players in the team from the current 30 to 24 players.”
