Team Kenya ready to battle for medals as World Athletics Championships start in Guangzhou

Kenya team is set to collect medals at the World Athletics Relays Championships in Guangzhou, China tomorrow.

The two day championships that starts tomorrow to Sunday will see Kelvin Kipkorir, Mercy Oketch, David Sanayek and Mercy Chebet take on track in 4x400m mixed relay.

The quartet at Guangdong Olympic Stadium will compete in Heat Four at 2:01pm Kenya time and competing in lane six, they face the USA, South Africa, Australia and Nigeria.

Commonwealth games 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala who is in China after competing in both Xiamen and Shanghai Diamond Leagues will lead Boniface Mweresa, Meshack Babu and Steve Onyango in the men’s 4x100m in Heat Two at 3:03 pm against Jamaica, Germany, Belgium, South Africa, Thailand and Chinese Taipei.

Mercy Oketch, Esther Mbagari, Mercy Chebet and Vanice Kerubo will then be on track at 4:13 pm in heat 3 competing in the women’s 4x400m relay against Germany, Jamaica, Poland, Ireland and South Africa in lane 9.

Come Sunday, the men’s 4x400m will take on track in finals.

The World Relays double up as a qualifier for the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo where the top 14 teams will earn automatic tickets, while two additional slots will be awarded based on world rankings.
