Teklemariam, Tsegay victorious as Eritrea maintain winning formula at CAC Cycling championships

Eritrean continued with their superlative performance in the third day of the ongoing CAC Africa Cycling championships in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

Today, Eritrea won five medals, three gold, a silver and two bronze medals after winning both junior men and women, by sweeping the men’s podium after clearing 100.8km and 67.2km distance with Keven Teklemariam and Nardos Tsegay taking gold.

After winning the time trial in the opening day of the championships, Teklemariam won the junior men’s title leading compatriots Nahom Efriem, who won bronze during time trial managed silver with Eldana Bereket completing the podium in an all Eritrean affair.

The champion said that he came to Kenya well prepared for the title and he managed to get.

“It was not easy to come home with victory but due to my preparations, I won. Not just winning but leading my country to sweep the podium,” said Teklemariam, who was accompanied by their ambassador to Kenya Beryn Russom.

He managed to cross the finish line after clocking 2:23.38 with hopes of representing his country at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, USA.

Two Kenyans Ian Kipchirchir and Billy Mangwana Mbolo positions 9 and 14 with Stanley Ngugi kinyanjui and Bob Waithaka failing to finish in a 35 men race with 21 managing to cross the final line.

In junior women, Tsegay won the title when she clocked 2:03.08 ahead of Ugandan Nantume Miria with silver and Eldana Bekeret from Eritrea settling for bronze.

The only Kenyan was Sherry Chepkemboi who finished in position 13th in the race that attracted 18 riders with 15 completing.
