Three arrested for in suspicion of Kelvin Kiptum’s death

Three of the four people who allegedly visited the home of World Marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum four days before his death presented themselves to police for questioning.

The three were earlier detained at Kaptagat police station in Elgeyo Marakwet until 11 am on today when they were transferred to Iten for further questioning.

Keiyo South OCPD Abdullahi Dahir said they were persons of interest and were being questioned to establish their motive.

Father Samson Cheruiyot had raised concerns hours after Kiptum’s death in a road crash along Eldoret-Ravine road on Sunday night.

Cheruiyot said four strangers visited the athlete’s home in Chepsamo village, Kaptarakwa ward, Keiyo South, in Elgeyo Marakwet four days before his death.

He demanded they be investigated, saying they did not introduce themselves well.

Cheruiyot positively identified the three at Kaptagat police station.

Police say preliminary findings show the front part of the vehicle involved in the accident was intact and the airbags did not deploy.
